*Born in the eastern Indian culture of Kolkata and Benaras, the singing professor grew up on the bank of the river Ganges. The sacred river was his bathing place ; awakened by bird songs, he went to bed on the sound of the Shiva Kali temple bells. Writing poetry he inherited, and singing came naturally to him. He later lived in North, West and South India being quick to learn their rich cultures; For years since has lived in Australia - and travelled around the world. His & his singing family's recent Indian venue singing programs in ATIRA Ahmedabad, JNU Delhi, Rubber Technology National Workshop IIT Kharagpur, Shiva Ashram - Varanasi, Shri Ramakrishna Paduka Utsav, and Saraswati Puja Purbashri Entally Kolkata were thoroughly enjoyed by a culturally wide, diverse Indian and International audience.

Today he is deeply loved, respected and 'the most undiscovered' singer songwriter 'Bandy the singing professor' of Sydney Australia [and the singing family-Bandyopadhyay].

"100% genuine, talented, and a treasure yet to be discovered" says Prof Ashok Vaseashta, Marshall University, USA who enjoys the compositions in three divese languages : Bengali, Hindi and English.

On numerous occasions the singing professor has ranked in the top no 1 place in various websites under appropriate categories. ".. He is a very good singer too.. I have attended a function he arranged last year at Taj Bengal, Calcutta (in 2004). It was great !!" says senior mechanical engineer Mr Shyamal Chatterji from Kolkata, India.

In May 2006, an Australian listener of these MP3 songs wrote to the singing prof : Your music is truly a gift. As I listened to the tracks, I was overwhelmed by your compassion, through music and lyrics. Although I can only understand english, when listening to your songs I needn't know what you are saying to get the message. It was a pleasure and a joy to get to hear you. Very nice! - Richard Marek"

- Try the songs as sleep therapy - they are soothing;

Please see down below listeners' love and admiration messages from around the world. Some concert & other photos plus newspaper articles in English, Bengali and Hindi are on his family web http://members.optusnet.com.au/~bandyfamily/

Bandy the singing professor [Dr Srikanta Bandyopadhyay] is a university Associate Professor in science and engineering in Sydney Australia, an international award winning scientist - also a professional quality lyricist, melodyist and singer;

His compositions are on love, happiness, friendship, christmas, children, devotion, Godliness, Life's stories and so on. The songs are regularly broadcast on radio stations around the world.

His English song album is 'Songs From My Heart', first released in USA in 1997, then in Australia in 1998. "The sound is very catchy", said BMG Ariola of Switzerland.

Leslie Stanford, Leader of the Diversity Group in Delaware USA said the following after listening to Bandy's CD : ".... the results are lovely gifts to the world. .... find your songs very accessible because I can immediately hum along and the lyrics speak directly to similar experiences in my life. At the same time, there is a depth to the songs that nourishes the soul and lifts the spirit.... ". .‘

You sing wonderfully’ says Dr Philippe de coster, of Belgium

The English songs - soft, soothing, with classical yet vibrant Indian melody - and flowing western orchestra - appeal to one and all, irrespective of nationality, age and cultural. EMI Switzerland thought these were 'old-fashioned', which is true as Katy of Purdue University, USA writes : "…Oh students you are our sunshine and the light of our eyes", it is beautiful. I passed the email onto my parents in Ohio, they really enjoy your music a lot. You are a truly talented musician, your words carry so much meaning and heart.”

A university professor Subba Rao from India likes ‘oh students’ as‘so sweet ..sincere and heart felt..People of 19th century used to have such multi dimensional capabilities ... ’.

To civil engineer and academic of Swinburne University Dr Halina in Melbourne Australia these are ‘lovely songs as they calm me down after the exhausting days’.

Yuri, a professor from U- Nebraska-Lincoln in USA exclaims ‘…awesome! …your songs sound excellent and very professional!’.

‘Dear Sri, Your music is fantastic’ says Dr Alma Hodzic, Academic- Mechanical Engineering, The University of Sheffield, UK.

Prof Rocque Reynolds, Faculty of Law, University of Technology Sydney, in March 2007 says about the English song CD "..fantastic CD, I am SO impressed"

Bandy - a caring / dedicated university teacher and researcher in his engineering field. His students give him all kinds of accolades - the Sept 2006 official appraisal of his teaching being : "..It is safe to say he’s most students favorite lecturer. Rather than looking for the brightest students, he tries to bring everyone up to a higher level"; and "...gives students a sense of pride in their work, teaches ethics & other personal traits totally ignored by other lecturers". The immediate past Vice Chancellor & President of his university wrote.. "Not only are you a top materials engineering researcher, but a very talented composer"

Young hearts too dearly love his songs - says Evelin Ramirez, Florida, USA :
" Dear Professor Bandy: your music has truly touched me in a profound way. Your voice evokes a very sweet vulnerability, I find quite beautiful. I have recommended your music to my friends and they are equally impressed by your work. I live in Florida, and wonder, when will you come to America and give us a concert?”

Since opening of this website, over hundred fan-mail and letters of appreciation and personal e-mails came from listeners all around the world.

Big newspapers in Australia and India carried the story of the simple yet lovely and meaningful song compositions created by Bandy, and sung with the creator's emotion. Given more than 70 international programs and demands for his life performance is high.

His Indian song albums in Bengali and Hindi have received high acclaim too around the World, in both Indian and Western communities. The simple yet spiritually lifting lyrics, soothing melody and instrumental music combination - Indian and western - is unparalleled : keyboard, sitar, tabla - Indian drums, flute, guitar, piano acordian and percussion

The accompanying acoustic and keyboard musicians used in recording of these songs are among the best in the cultural capital of India, i.e. Kolkata.

The Bengali song "Amader (our) Sourav Ganguly" on the Indian Cricket captain and "Krishna Thakur tomai mora janai nomoshkar (Of Lord Krishna, we pay our homage to Thee) came very high up the top ranks of all songs in MP3 Oz website.

A Bengali devotional 'Shyama Mayer Chorontolai sonpechhi mono-pran' was given 'very good' standing by Swamiji from Sydney Ramakrishna Mission & Vedanta Centre.

For the songs on Lord Narayan [Krishna], a listener bestowed upon Bandy (Srikanta) the title ""Atmaswarupananda" [who knows himself, his soul and enjoys being one]. '

Ganer guru Rabindranath Thakur' - on the Nobel Laureate Indian poet, and

Ami ami ami - an egoistic satire 'me, me and only me', '

Shankh bajao'- a Bengali marriage song all became very popular. “…your song lyrics are beautiful! You remind me of a Bengali Bob Dylan.” -says daughter Indrani, with Master English literature, and a Lawyer in Sydney.

A number of Hindi songs came within the top 5 of the World tracks.

These include devotional 'Mori Ganpati Baba', love song 'Kolkata, Delhi, London, New York', bhajan 'Bhuwan bharme bansarik dhunme bajat Tiharo gaan'and other.

Singing professor's wife Sonali and two of his daughters Rakhi and Srijata Michelle also have sung in the album 'Kathay bale matir taan', their songs well liked too. Kolkata's foremost Hind Daily newspaper 'Dainik Vishwamitra' published an article portraying Bandy as 'Kala aur Vigyan ka Sangam is Dr Srikant' i.e. ' In Dr Srikant Art and Science become a coherntly blended entity'

Australian listeners from different backgrounds have loved the lyrics and the easy going rhythm of the songs : both the English language and Indian compositions. '

Why make it complicated when simple will do' is ‘very enjoyable’ to almost everyone including Emma Young, Freelance writer for Sydney Morning Herald, and Australasian Reporter, New Scientist.. Her article on Bandy in SMH created a wider interest in the community. '..The stunning outlook in S Herald is a classic and received a standing ovation at a teacher’s staff meeting', was written by David, a teacher from St Michael’s School, Thirroul, Australia. 'May we have a clue where your music is available- especially the lyrics…' he added. '

What a mess Monday morning' is full of fun, and at Christmas time Bandy's composition 'Ho, ho, ho ho ho ho ho ho ho, the Christmas day is knocking on the door' becomes a talking point. [when this CD was first released in USA in 1997 just before Christmas, Bandy sent a copy to the then First Lady Ms Hilary Clinton. Three weeks later a 'thank you' card came from the White House signed by Ms Hilary Clinton as well as President Bill Clinton.

The Christmas song made a big hit in Christmas carols in USA in Dec 2004, as presented here Reproduced from http://www.icbs.com/prayer/news.htm Christmas Caroling Sets the Tune for the Season, 2004 ……We also had another first this year. The carolers presented the US premier of a Christmas Carole song written and composed by Singing Professor in Australia. Professor Bandy, a world renowned expert in nanotechnology and a fellow alumnus of Jacob Mathew at IIT Kharagpur, is known also for his musical talent. His first English Christmas Song was composed .... He sent the song to Jacob for review and Jacob, after listening to it, was so impressed by it, he asked Blesson for his opinion and with Blesson's concurrence, asked Bandy for permission to perform it in Cleveland. The rest, as they say, is history. … by Dr Jacob Mathew More of that story on UNSW webs http://www.materials.unsw.edu.au/news/singprof04.htm

"This is the first time in my life that I have seen all members of a family sing so well' - said Prof Himadri Bohidar of Jawaharlal Nehru University Delhi, who was present at the Bandyopadhyay family singing concert in ATIRA auditorium of Ahmedabad India on 10 Dec 2005. Similar sentiments were expressed by another 300 strong audience including Dr Sushil Verma, Director - General of CIPET, Chennai. The singing family was given a standing ovation.

On the evening of 17 January 2006, the Bandyopadhyay singing family gave a special 2 hr music program at the SPS auditorium of the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi India. The JNU program was arranged by Prof Bohidar who was present at the singing family's Ahmedabad program on 10 Dec 2005. 'So good to hear the true Indian traditional, classical oriented songs that the current Indian generation has almost forgotten' said some listeners, whilst almost everyone said it was '..a concert which I shall remember for the rest of my life.'
