Listen and singer/songwriter, Kym Campbell, will draw you into her world with music most often described as acoustic surf-roots. The twenty seven year old evokes an innocent, yet sophisticated and upbeat sound, sharing with us all her experiences of life as a girl, a woman, a lover, a joker, and most of all – that little surfie chick from next door. As an acoustic artist, her unique vocal style, uplifting lyrics and catchy guitar riffs create a distinct and alluring style. But it is her well crafted songs themselves that have drawn the most attention with Kym making the top 50 and 100 in the Oz Music Awards acoustic category as well as being chosen to feature on the "SoundsLikeCafe" Compilation CD Vol 23-2008, which is distributed and played in over 1200 cafes nationwide. Each SoundsLikeCafe CD features some of Australia’s most highly regarded musicians, such as Evermore, Paul Kelly, Sarah Blasko, Lior, Grace Knight and Abbey May. Consistently staying in the top 30 Australian Myspace artists for the genres of both roots and surf and the top 10 on MP3.com.au has also built Kym an impressive fan base as well as inclusion on a variety of other local and international CD compilations and airplay on a number of radio stations both in Australia and the United States.

Kym has been influenced by a kaleidoscope of genres from reggae to folk, roots flowing to easy surf-rock, with even a hint of hip hop. And out of this combination, she has crafted her own distinct style, while still managing to include just enough radio friendly pop to keep that tune popping up in your head all day. Names like Ben Harper, Tristan Prettyman, the Waifs, Bob Marley, Jack Johnson, The Beautiful Girls and Sublime, are just a few she draws any particular special inspiration from. Having supported acoustic rock and roots bands in the United States, Kym is now back in Australia again and you can find her playing at a number of niche venues and roots festivals around Australia. With her debut album coming out this year in August keep your eye out for this up and coming talent!

ALBUM REVIEWS

"Easy to listen to and good production."
Simon Dawson, Music Director - 102.9 Hot Tomato

"An American who has brought herself to the glory of Byron Bay. Think beach babe and acoustic guitar. Eight songs that are definitely on the chill-out tip with Campbell supplementing her laidback guitaring with harmonica and a sweet little ukelele that works a treat. Songs about love and loss but most with a sense of lowkey celebtration to them. Sheesh! Lowkey, chill-out, laidback, understated! Shelve this with your Jack Johnson, Xavier Rudds and Tiddas."
Luke Robertson, Scene Magazine

"We’ve added your song Free Flowing to the playlist on Coast FM, sounds great!"
Mary-Lou Stephens, Assistant Music Director - 91.7 ABC Coast FM

Kym Campbell - Vocals, Guitar, Ukelele, Harmonica
