The success of ...nemisis brought increased exposure, increased scrutiny and increased pressures.
The follow up, Mommy's Mistake produced the top ten hit 'The Story So Far', but Lohner's personal favorites, the funky 'It Could Happen To You' and the haunting 'I Don't Feel A Thing', received very little attention, and spearheaded a growing disappointment for Lohner.
Those in the Stray Arrow Productions camp were at odds with each other as to what the next move should be. Of course management was expecting a continuation of the Power Pop formula that brought ...nemisis . Lohner however, was becoming more frustrated at being pigeon-holed as a Power Pop artist and having his harder edged songs being ignored. When Lohner submitted the rocker 'Turn Up The Volume' and the funk driven 'Sweet Evil' to a lukewarm response, frustration grew and he proceeded to push the envelope further. The submission of 'The Beast Within', a rap styled rocker, and the sabbath influenced 'Behind The Forbidden Door', brought things to a head and forced Lohner to grab the reins of his production company and cleaned house, which became the subject of the all out rocker 'Suck On This'. AltarEgo proceeded to become a very dark hard edged album with very little in common with Lohner's previous work.
