Floating roach:"the band for us in an excuse to get drunk and act younger then we are... our music is shit as you can hear... we record, write, produce and engineer all our own music.."
"our music is fast, loud and shit... and thats the way we like it"
Floating Roach's music goes from explosive extremely fast punk rock to twelve bar blues to ska reggae feeling songs... the band come from a back ground of Punk, Metal, Rock, jazz, funk, Experimental music a mix of anything and everything really .... and at the moment just love this band to peices and want to get out there and explode on stage in a drunk fit of intence fun and attitude... you'll want to be there... I will...
Floating roach - History:
Floating roach started in early 2006 When after seeing The misfits, casino rumbler's and no idea play at the corner hotel in Richmond (Melbourne, Australia) Mark (Wightley) decided he wanted to start a punk rock band. Mark had been in and out of a few bands over the past few years and was friends with a fairly good guitarist named Nick (leslie). Nick was a metal head at heard and at first wasn't interested in the idea of writing punk rock.
Nick was studying to become a sound engineer so Mark returned to nick with the idea of trying to record a punk rock album in a weekend just to muck around. Nick agree and started writing some tracks. Nick and Mark got real hammered over teh weekend and wrote 6 songs and recorded them some of the the songs included: Better off drunk, 6 year old bad ass & seriously. The band still plays these songs sometimes today.
After the weekend of writing songs The boys showed a few people the songs and they seemed to enjoy them... so they continued to write songs.
After a few months of writting songs and having about 30 songs in their bag the guys booked a gig at revolver on wednesday the 16th of august 2006... The they realised they had a bit of a problem they had about 2 months to get ready for a gig but they had no drummer.
Mark talked to a drummer from his tafe name Matt (Woolhouse) about joining the band on drums. Matt seemed quite intrested in playing for the band. Mark, Nick and Matt organised a jam at a local rehearsal studio but a few days later Matt told the guys he could no longer play for the band because of personal reasons.
Now Mark and Nick were back at stage one no drummer and a gig looming. Shane (Turville) a friend and past band mates of marks Agreed to fill in for the band untill Matt was able to play... and the band was ready again.
A few weeks after the bands first gig they decided to record there first demo/ep "The Worst $4 you'll ever spend" The whole 10 track ep was recorded by the band in about 8 hours all up starting from 1 in the morning to save money... The end turn out for the ep was poor and the band hated it and knew they had to record some better then there first attempt. (We will put "The worst $4 you'll ever spend up for free on this site soon).
After a few more shows and a few more songs the band hit the studio again on january 2nd 2007 to start recording the then titled "greatest tits... the very breast of floating roach". The original tracking for the cd was complete in 5 days on the night of completion Mark and Nick went and got drunk at the local pub to celebrate the completion of the album.. that night they met Adam (Sutherland) roller blading around doing massive stunts at the local skate park.. Adam was quite drunk and spewing and the boys quickly asked him to join the band on rythem guitar.
To give Adam a fair go the guitars and bass were both re recorded to put Adam on the cd. The cd was also renamed "enjoy"
The band continued gig around Melbourne.
On August 17th 2007 Shane decided to leave the band to presue music he preferred to play.... Matt woolhouse rejoined the band now living in Adelaide... A week or so later nick decided he could no longer handle being in floating roach due to different opinions in the band, his depression and also his drug and alcohol abuse.
The band is still going to day and hopes to see u at there next gig
the band also hopes to record within the next few months
