Story of Marlinchen

Marlinchen write music for “a soundtrack to a film never imagined”.

Glen and Maxwell, on bass and guitar, started making Cocteau Twins and Faith And Disease-influenced dream-pop. When Brett, a huge fan of Spirited Away composer Joe Hisashi, joined the band he brought along with him evocative and whimsical keys. Then Skye joined and brought with her the warmth and drama of classical violin. Their friend Jasmine, a chorister, joins them on a number of songs as well. She sings traditional Hungarian folk lyrics, recites the diary of Opal Whiteley and other pretty words.

Together they make an ambience that crawls. Their live performances and demo, Drawing a Cat With the Aid of Two Coins, include classical and nostalgic qualities that can evoke tableaux from films that may exist, or may exist solely for the duration of the song.

This music is hauntingly beautiful. It's hypnotic nature takes the listener far far away.
