Solo artist NAOMI records, produces, writes and sings all her own material from her home studio in
Melbourne, Australia. NAOMI started her musical career as a vocalist with Melbourne based electronic outfit
PSX (now known as Deepface) who were runners up in Triple J’s Unearthed competition in 2001.
She went on to write, sing and co-produce music with two-piece Melbourne outfit Happigun with
producer Drew Stansbury from Eskimo Productions, creating music that was a mix of soul, funk,
reggae and electronica.

Now pursuing a solo career, NAOMI has created an outstanding debut album with Scargrounds.
A personal and evocative collection of original songs, Scargrounds is a beguiling combination of
electronica, soul, dub and trip hop. Mixed by Jonathan Burnside (Sleepy Jackson, the Fauves,
Grinspoon) the album features a handful of guests, including Tom Spender (Offcuts) on guitar
and vocals and Caerwen Martin (who has worked with Dan Brodie and the Mavis's) on cello.
The rest (that is, the composition, vocals, melodica, flute, all synths and the production) was
accomplished by NAOMI. Versatile? Absolutely. Talented? You bet.

NAOMI'S background is in fine arts where sound based installations were a focus of her
creations at Wimbledon College of the Arts in London. NAOMI has continued her involvement
in the arts by creating soundtracks for theatre and film projects and is currently writing music
for a Tribute to Pablo Neruda in the Latin American Cultural Arts Festival taking place at Federation
Square in Melbourne.

While much of her musical inspiration comes from the greats, such as Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin,
Billie Holiday and Jimi Hendrix, NAOMI'S tastes are eclectic and evolving. ‘There’s so much music
that I'm listening to at the moment and that has inspired me – Tricky, Squarepusher, Arvo Part,
Taraf de Haidouks (a Romanian Gypsy band and family), Lamb, Morcheeba, Outkast, Ben Harper,
Jill Scott, the Spooks, Studio One stuff, Goldie, Burning Spear, Bob Marley, Gill Scott Heron – and the
list will go on indefinitely for the rest of my life I'd say!’

If you haven’t heard NAOMI yet, don’t feel left out – soon enough everyone will be talking about her.
Scargrounds is released in September 2004, distributed thru MGM.
