Poligraf

Québec

Genre:

Rock, Heavy Rock

Influences:

King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Dream Theater, Rush, Yes, Al Di Meola

Label:

Poligraf was originally formed in February 1998. After having lasted through many personnel changes, the band’s core finally dissolved in February 2003, right in the midst of the recording of a first album. Following a few months off, new collaborators were recruited and a new lineup finally gelled in June 2005. The boys found themselves in search of a bassist in March 2007 after the departure of Isaac Desgagné-Bouchard, and Denis Robitaille, one of the band’s founder, came back into the fold at the end of June 2007 to complete the present formation.

The band counts four members. Guitarist, keyboardist, and lead vocalist, Christopher Stewart also acts as main composer and operates the space where the poligrafic activities unfold. Member of the original Miriodor lineup in the ’80s, Denis Robitaille handles bass duties and vocal harmonies. Holding degrees in Music Education and Classical Interpretation, and full-time member of the Ensemble vent et percussion de Québec, Christian Lavoie fulfills both the roles of drummer and percussionist. Already known for his soundtrack to the short film « Falling, » Miguel Puerto cements the band with his confident guitar playing and occasional keyboard contributions.

Strongly influenced by progressive rock, the poligrafists draw from a wide range of genres going from world beat and jazz fusion, to symphonic music and free form improvisation.

Live Dates !

Those of you who have visited our site recently may have noticed that a few dates have appeared on the events calendar (www.poligraf.net/en/calendar/). Well, I'm happy to confirm that your eyes haven't deceived you ! Over the course of the next month or so, Poligraf will share the stage with Ottawa's excellent The Rebel Wheel (www.therebelwheel.com/) on two occasions, first on this Friday May 16 at La Ninkasi du Faubourg here in Québec, and then on Saturday June 14 at the Avant-Garde Bar in Ottawa. The band has also been selected to compete in the Olympiades Culturelles 2008, more precisely the "Plein feux sur les bands de garage" contest which will be held on Saturday May 24 at the Base de plein air de Sainte-Foy.

Here's the poster for the upcoming gig :

Since the end of February, we have been working with Martin Daris, already a close collaborator of the band, who has manifested his desire to join the band and take charge of the lead vocals. Martin will be given a first shot at the job this Friday evening. Also, our videographer friend Olivier has been working hard lately on producing visuals for our live shows, and hopefully your eyes will be able to feast on the first fruits of his efforts.

For all the details, links, and map, please refer to the event page www.poligraf.net/en/2008/05/16/poligraf-and-the-rebel-wheel-la-ninkasi/.

While on the subject of calendar and events, there are a few improvements to the website to report. First, I've modified the calendar page (www.poligraf.net/en/calendar/) so that recent past dates are now listed along with upcoming events. Should you want to access the whole archive of events, simply click on the Events category link () located in the bottom menu. I've also added a "Visited Venues" () dynamic map upon which markers will appear as future events are confirmed.

Finally, let me just remind you that our calendar is available in iCalendar format which allows for easy importation in your favourite calendar application. Here's the subscription link : www.poligraf.net/en/?ec3_ical.
