The Baddies are a 3 peice punk rock outfit from Sydney who have just released their debut CD ‘The Baddies Worst”.
MP3.COM REVIEW:
Well, finally, here it is . The long awaited first album from Sydney’s bad men of punk. “The Baddies’ Worst” is set to breathe new life into the Sydney punk scene.
Originally formed in 1990 by bass player John Morris (ex Club of Rome & Moral Majority) and guitarist Paul Hayward (ex Young Docteurs) the Baddies have become Sydney’s stalwarts of good old fashioned balls to the wall punk rock. With the addition of John Butler on skins, this accomplished trio have proved once again that punk is all about attitude and passion; and very little to do with fashion consciousness or bland imitation.
“The Baddies’ Worst” sees the ugly three finally getting it right on some of their oldest live standards, as well as experimenting with new ideas and sounds. “The Ruler” is a fine example, an instrumental with reggae overtones and solid punk riffs, incorporating (for the first time in rock history) the old schoolboy trick of twanging a ruler against the edge of a desk. Several other newies (Monday Morning, The Ballad, Tonight) grace the album, reinforcing the band’s position two steps to the left of the traditional punk stereotype. It’s great to see the band such as the Baddies hasn’t stagnated after ten years of hard slog on the sticky carpets of Sydney’s pub scene.
Variously described by the music press as”one of Sydney’s criminally underrated bands”, “a three piece threshing machine”, and “Sydney’s unassuming kings of punk”, the release of their Worst is not before time.
Play it loud!
